Music Lessons FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Benbrook Music Academy

1. How long before my 7-year-old can play their first song?

Most students at age 7 can learn to play a simple song within 4–6 weeks of starting lessons, depending on practice time and focus. We emphasize building confidence, rhythm, and note-reading skills from day one, so your child can enjoy early successes.

2. Is piano or guitar better for a beginner?

Both instruments are great for beginners, but it depends on your child’s interests and goals:

Piano: Excellent for learning music theory, reading sheet music, and understanding harmony.

Guitar: Great for developing finger strength, rhythm, and playing songs your child loves quickly.

We help families choose the best instrument and can even allow switching if interests change.

3. What’s the difference between group and private lessons for kids with ADHD?

Private lessons: One-on-one focus, flexible pacing, and fewer distractions—often ideal for kids with ADHD.

Group lessons: Social interaction, teamwork, and motivation from peers, though extra strategies may be needed to maintain focus.
Lessons are personalized to each child’s learning style for the best results.

4. How often should my child practice at home?

We recommend 15–20 minutes a day, 4–5 days a week as a general guideline, but every child is different. Success isn’t measured solely by practice days. Even a small amount of practice—or simply attending lessons consistently—can be beneficial. Our instructors provide fun, structured practice plans to keep kids motivated.

5. Do you offer recitals or performance opportunities?

Yes! We hold recitals twice a year, giving students the chance to perform in front of family and friends. These events build confidence, stage presence, and celebrate every student’s hard work.

6. Can my child start music lessons if they’ve never played before?

Absolutely! We welcome complete beginners of all ages. Lessons are structured to gradually build skills while keeping the experience fun and rewarding.

7. Do you offer lessons for multiple instruments?

Yes! We offer piano, guitar, voice, drums, ukulele, bass, and violin. Students can explore more than one instrument if they wish, with flexible schedules to fit your family’s needs.Parents are always allowed to sit in on lessons. We have an open-door policy for lessons.

8. How do I know if my child is ready for music lessons?

If your child shows interest in music, enjoys singing, tapping rhythms, or experimenting with sounds, they’re ready! Lessons are tailored to age, attention span, and skill level, so beginners always start at the right pace.
